Sant'Antonio Abate
Saint Anthony the Abbot is one of the most illustrious hermits in the history of the Church. The saint, depicted with fire and a little pig, a symbol of healing, is linked to the popular tradition of “Saint Anthony’s fire,” which was once cured with pig fat. Saint Anthony is depicted with a stick in the shape of the Hebrew letter Tau, typical of hermits, and the bell with which the friars of his order announced their collections. Demons are depicted in the sky, a symbol of the temptations that the saint suffered during his long hermitage in the Egyptian desert and on the shores of the Red Sea.
