San Giuseppe con il Bambino

Saint Joseph, besides being the putative father of Jesus, is the patron of the Universal Church. In the painting, the carpenter is portrayed with wood shavings and logs that recall his profession. The presence of a fragment of a cross and a nail prefigure the future crucifixion of Jesus, while the lily symbolizes the purity and innocence of Mary. Jesus, Joseph and the lily create a highly symbolic triangular composition.
